Blue Wave is a company with a reputation for producing some of the leading models of solar pool covers on the market, however, they also have a reputation for producing some of the most expensive models as well. But, like all things, you do get what you pay for.
With the NS460 solar pool cover, what you get is a thick twelve MIL model that’s specifically designed for in-ground pools. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a pool cover that will last for more than one season. It’s also very easy to use, durable, and proven to work, which is what makes it a must-have if you love swimming in your pool year-round.
Overview and Features
Of course, what good would a solar pool cover be if it wasn’t UV protected? This model is made out of UV-resistant materials which means it can be left on at all times. Lower priced pool covers can quickly deteriorate if they’re left on a pool year-round. But the NS460 is built tough and able to withstand even the most intense sunlight.
The cover measures in at thirty feet by fifty feet, so it’s perfect for a larger pool but isn’t recommended for oddly shaped pools.
If you’re searching for a smaller pool cover or you need a cover you can trim to fit an oddly shaped pool, click here to read our buyer’s guide which highlights some of the leading models of solar pool covers on the market.
The pool cover features a thickness of twelve MILs, which is average for this price range. Since solar pool covers often have a thickness rating that ranges from eight MILs up to Sixteen, this twelve MIL cover can do a better than average job of keeping the water warm.
This is a bubble pool cover, which utilizes thousands of small bubbles in the design to trap the heat between the cover and the water, preventing the water and chemicals from evaporating, while also keeping the pool water warm so you can enjoy swimming any time of the day or night.
While most models of twelve MIL thick covers can boost the water’s temperature by five to eight degrees, this model by Blue Wave can increase the water’s temp by ten degrees, which is pretty impressive. In fact, pool owners have reported that the cover can still keep the pool water warm even on overcast days.
The manufacturer currently offers a five-year warranty on this model
A lower-priced pool cover will only last two to three seasons at the most. But this model can last up to six years, with proper care.
The biggest downside you’ll run into with Blue Wave pool covers is the price. We admit it’s pretty steep, but the fact that the cover can last twice as long as competing models makes this cover worth every penny.
Of course, if you’re on a tight budget, you can still find a quality solar pool cover, however, it won’t last nearly as long as this model by Blue Wave. If you’re on a tight budget, we recommend the Sun2Solar Clear 20-Foot-by-40-Foot Rectangle Solar Cover as a solid alternative. While it features the same thickness rating, it lacks in the durability department compared to the NS460.
